Richard was born in Chelmsford UK in 1959. 
He worked in sales and marketing for Chrysler UK which then became Peugeot UK and moved on to General Accident Property Services.Deciding to take a year off he drove overland from the UK to South Africa with the intention of going to Australia. He also set up the Safari Off Road Training Centre as he was a trained and qualified 4x4 instructor in the UK. With the help of Colin Fitzgerald the centre was relocated to the Henops River Valley in 1998 but due to the death of his partner, it was closed in 2004. 
Richard joined 4x4 Megaworld full time in 2001. He is currently based in Cape Town where he coordinates the layouts of national advertising, provincial promotions, sales and technical refrigeration enquiries.
