This mysterious trail is within the restricted diamond mine area and starts at the Konignaas Caravan Park or Noup Diver’s huts.  It’s generally easier, but can be challenging at times because it’s rocky and sandy.  It’s a high security area and you’re allowed entry with prior arrangement.  Guides take you to visit three shipwrecks and you might even spot black oystercatchers, brown hyena or bat-eared fox.  While this trail won’t really test your driving abilities, it’s steeped in history and fascinating stories.

The Way there

From Cape Town, take the N7 north and turn off to Hondeklip Bay six kilometres north of Garies.  Continue to the Konignaas turn-off and follow the road for another 18 kilometres to the Konignaas security entrance.  Continue a further 15 kilometres, turn left to Noup and follow directions to Noup.
