This award winning trail on a farm 20km from Witsand, between the Langberg and Skurwe mountains, is suitable for novice and experienced drivers. Drive on the famous red Kalihari sands and stop for a picnic under a large camelthorn tree. The trail, which meanders across the farm, offers various challenges. The route is a fairly easy-going 36 kilometres, great for beginners on sand and has an optional 4 kilometre stretch up a steep, rocky slope, which can take up to 2 hours.
On the N14, six kilometres south-west of Olifantshoek on the road to Upington, turn left at the sign to Witsand Nature Reserve.
Where to Stay
There are fully equipped self-catering chalets, bungalows with shared facilities and caravan and camping sites. There is a DB&B option if you stay in a chalet. Caravanning and camping from R90 a person and self-catering from R160 a person a night sharing.
